Does anyone else feel this way about prince of malibu? (mini rant)

Let me preface this by saying this is no hate to the author at all! I think Lexi Mae is doing an incredible job with the story and she’s a great author. It’s a good story. There’s just something that’s missing from the story for me to say I filly love it.

I can’t really put my finger on it… maybe it’s like, it lacks just that bit of flavor that I’m expecting it to have? It feels almost as if the author is trying to make it seem like it has spice but the execution is a bit off, and at times the story can feel a bit trope-y. Like if you’ve read a lot of Romance novels off Episode this story kind of feels like a Teen fanfiction version of those novels.

The characters can also feel a bit generic and like, not as developed as they could be. Some of the side characters come off quite one-dimensional (ex. Iris and Jocelyn) which takes me out of the immersion a bit.

Idk. But again this is not me hating on the story, I like the story, I just don’t LOVE it. And clearly a lot of people do as it’s talked about a lot, but I’m just thinking maybe it being an Episode story is holding the story back from its full potential? Or maybe it’s just not for me and my expectations were too high.
