Just finished the legend campaign and it was fucking incredible. I hate that the first day was mired with server issues, because this is genuinely a next-level story that has incredible weight. Well fucking done.
Bungie fucking cooked. They really did. I won't spoil a thing, but I want to reassure everyone, this was a fantastic campaign.
Incredibly in-depth and well made cutscenes, genuine cinema quality and full of meaningful action made by people who know what Guardians do. I was not expecting some of these to go so hard, I might genuinely watch them again just for the enjoyment of it.
Heartbreaking voice performances across the board, I've never heard Nolan North have such an S-Tier performance. You genuinely feel that giddy excitement when he basks in the Traveler's Light. Not just the regular cliche always-positive attitude Ghost has, like he basically breaks character in sheer euphoria. And when things go wrong, you feel the pain in his voice, there's still the indominable optimism, but it's pulled through his teeth in pained tones.
Raid and dungeon level mechanics that are approachable and introduced at a story level, but feel so appropriate for being this close to the Witness's final forces. They're engaging, straightforward, but add so much to the campaign that it's never a dull moment. Great boss fights and awesome arena designs.
Breathtaking environmental design, though this much should come as no surprise. I will admit that the first half didn't have me too convinced at first, it was good but clear that Bungie was doing a bit of a cop-out with pre-existing assets. But once you delve deeper and deeper into the Pale Heart and begin to enter the dark fortress of the Witness and his terraformed territory, things take a stunning turn that absolutely nowhere in the game comes close to matching.
This rivals or maybe even outright beats Witch Queen's campaign, and I say that with full seriousness.
God, if we had a smooth launch date, this would be heralded as one of the best expansions yet. I'm exhilarated and eager for the final campaign mission, and have already begun prepping for the raid.
I really hope Bungie goes into overdrive absolutely smoothing out every engineering bug they can patch, because when you're able to sit down and enjoy this all at once, it's a genuine industry-level experience.
