Magnesium tolerance is high
Update: I took a two week break from all magnesium supplements (including my daily vitamin which had both mag oxide and mag bisglycinate). It was rough. I drank pear juice, which helped a little but not nearly enough. After the two weeks were finished, I got the recommended Mag O7. I am back to normal now 😊 Might implement breaks in the future to prevent heightened tolerance.
Since it was recommended by my GI doctor, I've been taking some form of magnesium for years. I went from pooping every week and a half to pooping sometimes a couple times a day. I started off with magnesium citrate, but that was causing too much acid reflux and starting to not work so I switched to magnesium bisglycinate. That worked really well for years. Over the last year I have had to slowly increase my magnesium intake more and more and I think I've built up a tolerance to it. Has anyone had any success with stopping for a while and then starting back up again? I have tried all the over the counter stuff with no success as well as Linzess, which literally debilitated me after one dose, and I don't want to have to be constipated again like I was before.
TLDR: Magnesium supplements have slowly stopped being effective and I was wondering if anyone had success with stopping them for a while and then starting them up again.
