Food Aggression in Intact Male Ex Feral
Hi! I have a hopefully formerly feral cat who has been in my care since Thursday. He is an adult male, intact with a neuter appointment on the 9th. He is unvaccinated for everything at the moment so I’m very wary of bites and scratches. This will also be fixed on the 9th. I’m hoping to use the Socialization Saves Lives method of socializing him.
He has food aggression, and lashes out with claws when I offer churus especially. He doesn’t lash out when food isn’t in the picture, and often shows me his belly and falls asleep with me hanging out with him.
He was near the bottom of the pecking order with his colony, and frequently got beat up. He has also had very close brushes with starvation and came so close to death he was losing clumps of fur. I believe this is the root of the behavior.
