CGS Concerns

I’m a senior in high school and was accepted to CGS! I’d like to study astronomy and physics (I won’t do just an astronomy major) and I’m not sure if I should go to BU. I love Boston and always planned on going to college there but wasn’t expecting to get into CGS. I didn’t have anything against it until I saw what some BU students had to say about it.

As STEM inclined person I’m worried the CGS course restrictions will be an annoyance. I found the sample pathway for the astronomy degree but couldn’t find one on astronomy and physics. There are more advanced physics requirements for that degree and I don’t want to graduate later than 2028. With the extensive hub requirements at BU in general and the lack of freedom in CGS I didn’t know if this was doable. The astronomy pathway also shows only eight CGS courses (including the three summer courses) and I didn’t know if this was a mistake as that won’t be nearly enough to fill my hub requirements.

The other schools I’m considering are UH Manoa, CU Boulder, and Northwestern University. All of them are decent options for my major but Hawaii and Boulder don’t have the same sort of recognition. They’re both more lenient with credits though and will likely take my math up to differential equations and physics up to calc based e&m. Northwestern is well known but the major doesn’t have as much of a focus on astronomy as I had hoped for.

I’d love to go to BU but have my doubts about CGS. Any advice from someone studying astronomy and physics or people at CGS would be very helpful. Not being able to bs my hub requirements definitely isn’t a deal breaker. I love the idea of being pushed out of my comfort zone but I don’t want to be stuck with hub requirements until my final semester even after CGS. Am I better off going to a different school?
