I don’t want to generalize, but I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on how different cultures, societies, and monetary statuses influence a Hindu wedding in India. Specifically, I’m interested in understanding how various factors affect wedding spending from the male perspective.
For example, let’s say I’m from East India, and I have a net worth of around ₹50 lakhs. Here’s roughly how I would break down wedding expenses:
- Photography – ₹2L
- Jewellery – ₹4L
- Clothing – ₹1L
- Ceremonies (Turmeric, Songs, etc.) – ₹3L
- Wedding Travel – ₹2L
- Reception (Including Food) – ₹5L
- Miscellaneous – ₹1L
Total: Around ₹18L
To me, this seems reasonable, but I’m curious to hear from people across different regions, cultures, and financial backgrounds. How do your cultural values, traditions, and financial situations shape your spending when it comes to weddings?
Note: I totally get that some people may feel like spending so much on a wedding is a waste of money, while for others, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event. The point of this post is simply to understand where you would allocate funds if you had the option, and how different cultural or financial contexts might affect those decisions.
