Is it worth going to any University?

Hello, I know its a tough topic about going to Uni or not. I think its the norm that going to Uni is generally recommended to get a higher, even slightly higher paying jobs in the long run. What I fail to understand; some of the Uni seem to be taking anyone like Bradford, Bolton, Huddersfield, Brunel etc. Surely HE should be competitve to get in to start with but if everyone is able to get to study then what difference does it make between someone who studied hard for their A-Level vs someone who got all D's?
