Is it common?

I know a Russian guy at university in the UK, and he doesn't go to any parties, never drinks or smokes, and is extremely fit. From what I know, he studies computer science and mathematics. He also seems very cold, at least that's how I perceive him from the few conversations I've had with him. I rarely see him with anyone. I just want to ask if that's common in Russia.
