Deciding on a therapist
I started going to therapy in 2020. I attended biweekly for more than a year, she was an amazing psychologist but unfortunately charged way too much, so I stoped going (because of how expensive it was but also because she thought it was okay for me to stop going anyway). A few years later I attended my university’s psychologist for a full year also, she wasn’t as great but the service was free.
I am now out of university and once again in need of some therapy. My two options are going back with my first expensive therapist (with whom I could only afford 1 session per month), or going to a new therapist who will charge way less (with this new one I could afford maybe 2 sessions per month).
The reason I’m having trouble going with the new therapist is because I don’t want to start from scratch with someone new. My former expensive therapist already knows all my family history and my general issues, but she’s so expensive! But I don’t know if I have it in me to go over my general issues all over again with a new person. There’s really only one or two things I need to talk about, so I don’t know if one session with one of the therapists would do or if I’m going to need more than one session per month.
Any advice? Who should I pick?
