viable replacement for 2wire i38hg?

Hello, my mother has service through AT&T and her modem/router unit referenced in title has stopped working after ~13 years. I went to a few local AT&T stores who claim they no longer offer anything other than hotspots which wouldn't be compatible with her current internet. I believe she has a slow uverse coming in through digital lines. Is there any recommendation - the only device she uses with it is an iPad from two or three years ago.
