The Severance Committee

Hi everyone, I'm submitting an excerpt of my writing to my college's literary art magazine and was wondering if I could get some eyes on it to see whether or not it passes muster or needs further revision. I’m also a graphic designer, so I took the liberty of designing my own mock book cover, just for fun, trying to capture the feeling of a 90s thriller/mystery. Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
