What are your thoughts on Warrior Women?
I've recently been playing an old game of mine Warcraft 3 and looked at the missions that introduced the Night Elves. Those missions being "The Spirits of Ashenvale" and "The Hunter of Shadows." Both of which were very difficult levels for me back in the day. Even though the enemy didn't have access to their supporting spellcaster units. For some reason that has made me interested in the idea of warrior women to the point where I made a challenge to only use female Night Elf units during melee matches with the AI. That got me thinking about the Amazon trope which made me think of this subreddit.
I wanted to discuss general thoughts on warrior women. What are people's thoughts about warrior women when it comes to worldbuilding? There seems to be a semi common trope of notable societies where predominantly women do a lot of combat, sometimes exclusively women fill combat roles in these societies.
Why is the warrior woman such an appealing/common idea? How do you feel when it appears? What are ways to differentiate one group of warrior women from another? If you decided to add it to your world then why did you make that decision? Also I find it interesting these warrior women factions rarely fight each other and almost exclusively men, why is that?
I define warrior women in worldbuilding as a faction, usually a society where women predominantly do combat. Individuals or small groups of people do not count. Male combatants would be either an insignificant minority or non existent.
If you have warrior women that fill this criteria in your world, feel free to share.
