They Normalified Elphaba in the Wicked Movie

I've watched the Wicked musical twice (once through a YouTube bootleg and once in person on broadway and watched the movie once. I feel like Elphaba in the musical is portrayed as really awkward and weird and it makes sense that people don't like her bc the munchkins are so shallow. But she really is an outcast and her movements and expressions are very exaggeratedly weird. In the movie though, I feel like (although I absolutely love Cynthia Erivo's performance) she is way more "normal". Elphaba is supposed to be super quirky and weird but she just seems like almost a normal girl that would have no trouble finding friends and even being popular. Maybe I just need to watch the movie again but it seems like a large gap between the musical and movie characterization of Elphaba.
