Question for the Broadway fans

I've only seen the movie, but I was curious if Arianna playing Glinda as incredibly uncoordinated and bad at pretty much everything, yet with an absolute ton of unearned confidence was her choice as an actress or is this how Glinda is portrayed on stage as well?

I just rewatched it again and just about laughed until I cried in Popular when she sings "Good at sports!" and tosses the ball to spin it on her finger, but it just flies off into the background while she stands there holding her finger up like nothing happens. 🤣
