Looking for a reliable SUV or Hatchback (maybe hybrid?)

We have an 09 CRV and an 08 Prius. Either could have a problem not worth fixing soon and we are looking for what to get next. I'd like a pretty new car, so I'm not worrying about big problems popping up. A reliable car is a must.

We have a dog and often (5-7 times a year) make 5 hour drives one way, so I want a car the dog can be in the back of. I also like being able to get larger things into the back of the car. I really like the gas milage of the Pruis, especially for the long car drives.

Are the newer hybrid SUVs I see now any good?

I don't want a huge SUV. I've always liked the look of Subarus, but they are pretty expensive, and idk how good they actually are.

What would be the best case option?

What would be a good budget option (20k-30k)?
