I’m The Queen In This Life - Themis

Genre: Political-Fantasy, Romance

I love it. Lol! Yeah, if I’m going to start, I might as well start with something positive. 😄 So first of, I’m going to say it right off the bat, this is not a perfect story–much less a literary masterpiece. But with that aside, it’s a Really enjoyable read. One I really enjoyed from beginning to end. And I hope this post help you to decide whether or not this stories for you. Now with all that said, let’s begin.

Webtoon’s Rating: 9.61

Personal Enjoyment: 8

Statistical Rating–

Protagonist: 9

I’m not gonna, I love this girl. Hahaha! She is one of the biggest reasons why I keep coming back. She’s so good–she really, really is. In concept, Ariadne is your typical, “I die then come back in time protagonists”. & if you’ve read a lot of those then your familiar. However, in execution she’s absolutely phenomenal. Truly. She’s intelligent. Manipulative. Merciless—Almost to the point of uncaring. Resourceful. And motivated–Definitely motivated. However, through the course of the story she develops beautifully. In fact, her development in quick, but last all throughout 105 chapters, with her facing several psychological setbacks with her past trauma. And if I had to say - at least for now - she’s probably in my top 10 protagonists in Webtoon.

Deuteragonist: 7

Alfonso. Alfonso. Alfonso. Brother! We need to talk. I appreciate you–I really really do. But your kinda of a punching bag. You are easily the second best character in the story, but you ‘Really’ need to learn to fight for what you want & put your foot down when you need to. That said, I really do appreciate his kindness, & how caring & considerate he his towards Ariadne “Ari”. I also like how he gets motivated/inspired by her to do things he otherwise wouldn’t & how “he’s” the basis for her development. Plus, I like their dynamic, fluff & all.

Antagonist: 3

I’m going to be really honest, this is pathetic. In fact, where I come from, we don’t call these Antagonist–We call them canon fodder. Heck! We might as well call them cheddar-cheese! In fact, it doesn’t matter if I use just Isabella, or everyone who hates Ariadne (on sight), nothing would change. Everyone who doesn’t like (hates) Ariadne, is clinically retarded. (Scuse my French) As for Isabella herself, she had a fantastical introduction, but that was it. I’m not joking, she peaked… at her introduction. She’s unbelievably stupid, and that about covers it. Which is disappointing because from her introduction I was led to believe that this was going to be a Light vs L confrontation where they would do anything to reach the top–even kill each other if needed. HA! & for those of you who want to say it, no Cesare’ not an antagonist. He’s antagonistic in nature/mostly snobbish, but he isn’t going out of his way to disrupt Ariadne’s plans, instead choosing to help her for his own personal enjoyment/lust.

Side character: 3

As sad as it is. Even the good characters aren’t that great. And they definitely don’t even-out all the bad ones either. They just come & go too quickly, not being given enough time to develop–much less be well written.

Plot: 6

It’s pretty good. Overall, each section is very enjoyable/engaging, and there aren’t any real plot holes to point at. However I will say that there is a scene where they bring a random character, make him disappear after five seconds of his introduction, use him as an escape goat (I actually forgot who he was), then tried to make him as tragic as possible before dragging him away…. Yeah–no, that didn’t work.

Pacing: 7

Once you start reading, you can’t really stop–I know I couldn’t, Hahaha!! What can I say, everything flowed so smoothly. And there’s plenty of fluff that only gets you all the more engaged. 👍🏼😎👍🏼 I approve!

World-building: 5

It’s your standard medieval fantasy with a few made up names–because it’s in a different world.

Consistent: 10(Yes)

Dialogue: 8

It’s as beautiful as the art itself 👆🏼Look 4 yourself👆🏼 & was easily the hardest decision this review. I couldn’t be any happier with its beauty & elegance; Almost like eating cut strawberries throughout your ice cream.

Themes: 5

“Not betting your happiness on your relationship” “Having a relationship with someone who truly loves you” “Revenge” “Trauma” “Dysfunctional Family(If it even counts)” Any theme can be intricate and/or deep/complex, it simply comes down to execution. And this story, while doing them well, didn’t go any further than surface level.

Overall Total: 63/100 (D-)

Personal Enjoyment: 8

———

This was such an enjoyable read, & every time I started I couldn’t really stop. However as you’ve read, this is very much the, “Ariadne” show, with all other characters not nearly as fleshed out or well written. Even Alfonso, who is my second favorite, is not a character I full-heartedly love.

That said, this is a story of extremes, not in execution but in its strengths and weaknesses. For the things it does well, it does magnificently. For the things it does bad, it does pathetically. & if I had to give you a reason to read, then I might as well give you three in this order.😁

  1. Da Fluff!! Oh god, the fluff!

  2. The Art. As you can see it’s gorgeous and the dialogue only improves the overall quality.

  3. Ariadne🍷😎👍🏼, 👑 - I really do mean everything I’ve said up to this point. Ariadne is such a fantastically developed character with incredible intelligence and charisma. Fluff is good, but there’s probably a hundred different stories that’ll give you that. Having good art is nice, but without meat it falls to the way side. But Ariadne? Oh, boy–There’s only one…. “Ariadne de Mare”. 🍷👑🍷

Now for the all encompassing questions. If I love this series, why is it rated so lowly? Well that’s simple, because it’s who I am. I love stories. I truly, truly love story & am working on a novel myself. Regardless of genre or media: Movies, Novels, Television (Live action/animated), Games, Anime, Manga, Webtoons, Manhwa, Comics, Web Novels, Comedy, Fantasy, Literary, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Crime, etc. etc. etc. I don’t care. I really don’t care. If you show me a story with a reputation as one of the best. I’m going to consume it.(Considering it doesn’t conflict with my morals) But I’m also critical, analytical, and a perfectionist. Give me a job, and I’ll give you my best. Which is why I gave myself some freedom with the “Thoughts/Feelings, and Personal Enjoyment”, to gush about the things I like. Because once I start crunching numbers, emotions have no place.

———

Alright with all that out of the way, time to wrap this up. If you like what you saw, leave a like & comment down below the series you’d like to see next. If it gets enough likes I’ll consider doing a review on it. And if this series does well, then maybe I’ll branch out and things like “Series vs Series”, or “Character vs Character”. Who knows.

The rules are simple.

“Title”

“Genre”

“Image”

That’s it. That easy. That being said, I am Christian, so please keep that in mind. Also, I’ll take a look at this tomorrow & if I feel like there’s not enough suggestions, I’ll give it another day, before commenting on the winner. If by the 2nd day, not a lot of people participated then I’m going to assume this ended in failure. So by all means, share/show this post with friends and spread the word. Thank you so much for reading, & I hope you had/have/& continue to have a wonderful day. 🍷😁👍🏼
