(Re)Building community - increase participation

Hey all! Helping my pick-up group rebuild it's community and could use some ideas to help find/inspire more participation.

One of the glaring issues is the lack of ACTIVE organizers. The group has been around since early 2000's but the "current" organizers are burnt out. During COVID-19 there were some changes to their personal lives too (growing families/married/promotions/relocated etc.)

I'm relatively new to this group but really love it. In the past I have run/co-organized pick-up group's but those were smaller and temporary times. (Organizing while studying abroad or in college.) I spend a lot of time going to as many games as possible and getting to know people & their names. *Helping others learn names has been fruitful in overall relationships. Relationship building takes time, I know.

There's a regular who volunteered to help with one-off special events like bar crawls and post-game drinks/lunches. I was informed post-game gatherings used to be bigger, restarting this has been slow but going well, positive feedback.

We are the largest pick-up group in the area, so there are plenty of players but not many want to step up. :/ I have posted invitations but I have had to resort to begging to pull off a tournament last yr. We pulled it off in the end, everyone loved the tournament but it made me so mad that folks don't seem to want to help.

What are some ideas to help generate more participation and involvement from pick-up players?
