USA Nationals Squad Context

I am seeing a TON of hate about the world’s roster that was dropped. Lots on Twitter, sorry X, about diversity on the women’s roster and questioning why certain people are on mixed instead of open. Some posts spilling over onto here about people who didn’t make the team. I’m really not seeing any posts celebrating players who did make the team who maybe weren’t expected to, or celebrating the strength of all three squads regardless of context. Idk maybe I do t follow the right accounts or my algorithm is busted.

Overall I recognize that it’s a complex issue. What are the priorities of the team and staff? Do any of us outside of the circle USAU coaching staff and admins really know? Is it accessibility… probably not. Is it marketability… maybe to a certain degree. Is it putting the best 26 players from each division, based on ability alone, on each roster regardless of context… it doesn’t appear so.

So with all of that said… here I am, just an average ultimate player and fan of the game seeking context for the current squad. Does anyone have insight to the roster building process that can shed light as to how scrims or practice weekends actually went? Did some players shine while others maybe didn’t get the quality reps they needed? I completely understand and can empathize with a lot of the pushback I have read on social media about these rosters… there are a lot of gut reactions and emotions surrounding these teams. But I’d love to hear some positives! I want to be excited to watch these teams rep our country… what can I look forward to?
