Guest didn’t alert me to accident.
I had a guest rent my vehicle three weeks ago. Today I received a call from my personal insurance indicating that it was involved in an accident. I live in a no fault state.
Here are the facts:
1) They apparently used my insurance during the accident.
2) The person indicated on the police report as the driver was not an authorized driver of the vehicle
3) There was not any noticeable damage to my vehicle, hence the reason I didn’t report damage upon the return of my vehicle, however, now I suspect they did some buffing to cover it up. I also noticed that the headlight is sort of loose in the housing.
4) The person that they hit has retained an attorney to pursue medical claims
5) The guest admitted to the accident after reaching out to them today.
I called Turo and the agent was confused and referred me to the claims department. I’m now waiting to hear back from them.
I also called the attorney who reached out to my insurance to start the claim advising them that my personal insurance should not have been used as I was not the driver and it was on a rental so would be handled by Turo. They seemed to agree and indicated they would reach out to Turo.
I’m wondering what I need to do to get this off my insurance and what my next steps should be? Also, since the trip has been over for more than 24 hours, is there any recourse on the damage due to the extenuating circumstance of not being alerted to an accident?
Thanks in advance!
