Tragedeighs of the 1970's

My name is pretty common for its time and has a normal spelling but I just came across a differently spelled version of my name on a help desk ticket and it got me thinking about how tragedeighs have been around for a long time (people giving a unique spelling to a normal name). Some examples I've seen on different tickets include:

Amy = Amie, Aimee, Amee, Amey

Jennifer = Jenifer, Jenipher, Jennypher

Kimberly = Kymberly, Kymberlee, Kimberley, Kimberlee

Rebecca = Rebekah, Rebeca, Rabecka

Kelly = Kellie, Keli, Kelli

None of these are near as egregious as what we see today, but I wonder if people cringed about the alternate spelling back then just as much as we do now.
