TIFU by trying to catch a hedge trimmer that was running

In the spirit of TIFU, this actually happened about 5 years back.

Was renting my home, and realized that my hedges looked like garbage, and needed a trim. So I broke out with my electric hedge trimmer, ran the cable out, and got to work.

Knocked out most of the hedges on the side of the house, and when I got to the last set on the side, apparently I messed with something's home, and some sort of animal rushed out and startled me, causing me to drop the hedge trimmer.

Now, most people would step back, and just let the thing drop to the ground... but not I. I quickly thrust my hand out to catch it, and suddenly there was an icy cold feeling in my fingers, as the hedge trimmer bounced off my hand. Immediately realizing what I did, I fearfully looked at my hand. And it was then I realized that I could actually see the inside of my ring finger. I exclaimed "Oh", before blood started pouring from my fingers, and the sharp pain kicked in.

I ran inside the house, and called to my wife to call 911. Because of my history of trolling my wife, she didn't take me seriously, and replied with a confused "What?". I asked her again, and got a confused "...Why?". Finally I yelled "JUST CALL THEM!", she called, and an ambulance was on the way.

Ended up getting 3 stitches in my middle finger, 5 stitches in my ring finger, permanent numbness in parts of my index/middle/ring fingers, and my wife mocking me relentlessly for lack of common sense.

TL;DR- Dropped my hedge trimmer, grabbed it, and partially mauled my fingers.
