Why the F is Shogun so good?

I really wasn’t expecting much from this show and have seen a million other movies/shows with a similar subject matter, but this is clearly something beyond that.

Usually in these kind of shows, they will bring the setting, customs, history right up front and pummel you in the face with “look how accurate this looks” or “we have done a lot of research on why we are making characters do certain things because that’s how they did things back then, I promise, swear to god, it’s so accurate and you should care”.

However this show is really putting acting, story, and dialogue first and it’s making it one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve watched in awhile. I know it’s based on the book but so many shows like this do not do justice and will focus on the pretty effects and costumes first, but this show is doing everything right that makes it something that anyone can watch. It feels more like early game of thrones when it focused on people
