Pc upgrade or new laptop

So for context I am currently studying in 12 and my brother has said that he will be sending $1000 USD in the coming months. Equal to around 133k NPR. After hearing about the money my father has thought of buying a new laptop. But I don't really see a laptop of my preference in that budget. I have rather insisted on upgrading the Pc at home. It is running i3-3240 3rd Gen with a old GPU Nvidia G210.
I don't see how a laptop would help or be of any use as of now. What should I do? I have thought of getting some nice specs for the computer like upgrading to 6 7 th gen i5 or i7 and a better GPU as well.
