Is there ever an awkward vibe whenever you're surrounded by an bunch of other surfers you don't know waiting to catch a wave? Do you need to break the ice and socialize?

With anything in life it always feels a little uneasy when you're around strangers, it's not just limited to surfing. I can only imagine it being more awkward when you're surrounded by others trying to get the same wave. I can see why fights happen because you don't know the other people around you or their tendencies, you're finding it out right on the spot.

I feel like I'd say hi, make small talk, and then you break the tension to some degree. I don't know if I'm overthinking this or if it's something that really is a problem. It's just something I kind of thought about because you're sharing space and seeing different people all the time.
