How to find a middle ground with player turn length?
CONTEXT - My partner and I picked up Spirit Island plus all expansions (I think) and we both really enjoy practically everything about the game.
Our issues arise in our particular play styles, namely I LOVE to think about what I'm doing, trying to plan ahead a little (including talking to her about what she's planning on doing etc), but mostly I love doing what I think is 'cool' for whatever reason my brain comes up with.
My partner however typically completes her entire growth phase in about 45 seconds at most, which leaves her sitting around waiting for me. I'm not saying she doesn't plan and think, but she just doesn't take as long or go into as much depth.
This had led to her asking to set up a phase timer (she wants about 1 minute), which while I agree I take to long sometimes, I feel like 1 minute isn't even close to enough time for me specifically.
We are still 'relatively' new to the game. We have played a total of 6 games, and have only played 2 with all of the expansions included. I play spirits that typically have moderate or high complexities, whereas my partner plays spirits with moderate or low complexities.
We haven't played the same spirit twice yet. I do also typically run the game as well (advance invader cards, play events, fear effects etc etc.), however my partner has been actively trying to be more involved in things other than her spirit and board.
QUESTION - So, how do I play faster without ruining my own fun in the process? Should I try to play the same spirit a few times in a row to get quicker with it? Will speed come naturally with more games? Am I forever stuck with 4hr long games because that's just me?
Thanks in advance!
