The Hopium Crisis: Cynicism Will Be Our Downfall
I wasn't sure what flair to use, but it needs to be said.
Cynicism is a natural human to response to intense, unprecedented, and/or nonsensical situations. You are not wrong for feeling like the sky is falling. We are the "lucky" generation who has to exhibit strength in the face of turmoil.
But can we please knock it off?
I'm not speaking about just the cynicism when I say that. When we put all of our energy into a singular event "if ___ doesn't get him, then it's over, y'all", it's going to have predictable results. Exhaustion, disillusion, and, eventually, submission.
That's where they want us.
There isn't just one bullet that'll take down this carefully curated system. It's going to take loads of calculated effort and, unfortunately, a bit of patience. Patience that we don't have and patience that, with things like climate change, we can't afford. This wasn't just a few years in the making. The "H" Foundation has been behind the scenes planning this crap since the 80s. That's over 30 years of behind-the-scenes fuckery that we gotta tangle with.
I'm begging those who are exhausted to take a break. Stay informed, but don't be over informed. Don't doom scroll. For those of you who are marginalized (POC, women, LGBTQ+, etc), focus on you and yours.
This is a time to build community. Especially with like-minded/empathic people. Talk to your neighbors, be with your family (even if it's found family), stay in touch with your friends.
Unfortunately, I don't think protesting will be safe. That's my personal opinion. Not just safe in terms of "oh wahhh you might get arrested" but I have a dark feeling that the J6 hooligans that were just released out onto the streets will try to turn any protest violent (ushering in martial L and other unseemly things).
This is not the season of the strong, violent leader who "saves us", but of the tight-knit circles who won't let us down.
And another thing!
I know some of you have the means. Run for local office.
There are so many seats that are just uncontested and those are places that definitely have no excuse not to try. I think you'd be surprised just how many people will show up for you. Especially if you live in a small town.
Anyway, I hope that made sense
TL;DR Your cynicism is a natural response, but fixation will lead to exhaustion and submission. We require sustained, collective effort to address this system. Take breaks from doom-scrolling, build community, and focus on local action, like running for uncontested offices. This is a time for solidarity and resilience, not reliance on singular solutions.
