Microphones that connect to AirPods that you could turn on and off from your phone?

My dad is hard of hearing. I bought him airpods because he can listen to stuff through his phone as a mic. So he can put his phone near the tv and sit on the couch and hear it now. However, if someone is having a conversation in the kitchen, he can’t hear it unless they grab the phone. I had the thought of having bluetooth microphones setup around his house. Like how people put Alexa hubs in different rooms of the house. And then from his phone he could choose which microphone he wants his airpods to listen to or even create groups. Is there any type of device or setup that would do something like this?
