East coast vs west coast bar mentality

I was in beaver creek all last week and every time that I was the one to who put down the bar the others either thanked me or when I asked and they said of course(in a friendly but shocked kind of way like why wouldn’t we lower the bar). If I didn’t get it the other person would put it down politely. I went skiing yesterday at seven springs in western PA and the anger from people when I put the bar down was crazy...literally every time. I was polite and respectful asked/announced lowering and raising the bar.

I don’t get it some of these people were actually quite friendly up until the bar was mentioned and then they give looks to kill and mumble shit underneath their breath.

I really don’t get it the difference in west vs east. It’s not like beaver creek is a local Colorado mountain people were from all over. What explains this? Is there a different etiquette on the east coast
