How do I make Variants turn into different product titles on a featured product on the home page, and when someone adds it to their cart?

IS this possible at all? There is a variant title changer, but it doesn't change the title of the product once someone adds it to their cart?

Or is there a way to turn products into variants of other products?

Any suggestions?
