S1E12 | I suddenly understand Big
I mean - he's toxic AF. BUT after finding myself binge watching the show for the 10th time... I'm at the point where they are dating for the first time, Carrie sees him and his mom at church, and after he blatantly tells her not to go to church with them because it is something they do on their own - BANG, she shows up with Miranda. He was upset, asking her if she was testing him, and saying his mother "doesn't need to meet another girlfriend". Of course, as usual, Carrie focuses on that unfortunate line rather than on the fact she has crossed a line. Big tries to explain what he actually meant, but there she is, acting like a wounded animal in despair.
Again: I do not like Big, I know he is manipulative, toxic, narcissistic and do not like him for Carrie at all. But this time, I just happen to be on his side. Besides, the whole breaking up thing... she was asking for a sign, refusing to go to the Caribbean with him, after he told her he needed to do things at his own pace. It might sound egoistic, but I do understand his point. Being Carrie selfish as well, I get why she doesn't go but well, I always thought it could have ended up differently if she hadn't behaved like that.
