Love bombs versus review bombs. Fact of life? Good vs evil? Better off without either?

Recently got several 1 stars in succession, and today it's several 5 stars. None are from book buys nor readers. Is one better than the other to you, or should ratings and reviews be reserved purely for those who read (some of) the book?
