1 month in Ipanema or Leblon

Boyfriend and I are planning to spend 1 month in Rio around the time of Carnaval. Both mid/late 20s, enjoy the beach, good restaurants, bars, and a good night out every once in a while. Looking to be somewhere that is safe and walkable, and have found good options in both Leblon (near the shopping mall) and Ipanema (eastern end, on the lagoa). Curious if this group has any thoughts on either location. TY!!!
