How can I keep a temporary long distance relationship? (me: 24F, bf: 24M)

I’m in a relationship with my university best friend. We know each other since we started college, we have graduated together.

However, I will be moving to Canada due to my work, and he’ll be staying in Brazil. The long distance situation will be temporary, because he’s looking for jobs in Canada with visa sponsorship, and also because if he can’t find one then I’d be ok with marrying him so that he can get a spouse visa and we can be together.

We’ll be approximately a year apart or two years during this process.

We text often about our day and send memes and other fun content to each other, so our online chemistry is very well-developed.

But I don’t want him to feel abandoned or to forget that we date while we’re apart. I want to keep us connected so that when we can finally be together in the same city again we continue the relationship.

How do you people remain connected and romantically attached to your significant others when you have to be physically apart? Any fun activities or ways to express my affection to him would be very helpful. Thank you!
