The UK might actually be about to get better
Hate to sound too optimistic too soon but in my town some new affordable housing actually got approved. It was a shitty block of cheap apartments in an ugly car park that will probably still cost a fortune, but it actually got approved. It's the second time the developers applied for planning permission, but last time they got blocked because the council claimed repurposing a disused office block for housing amounted to damaging the "character" of my ugly, soulless 1950s town. But it got approved which is all that matters. If you understand the problems faced by the UK you understand that basically all of them are downstream of the fact that it's impossible to build new houses, because the government gave everyone and anyone power to block them and cost developers a fortune. But recently the labour government started sort of forcing councils to build stuff again and stop blocking everything from being built, and even with the pretty token measures its already having pretty major effects. Starring to feel a bit more optimistic about the long term trajectory of this country, which was and still is frankly awful. Don't want to get ahead of myself but I might be able to afford a house at some point in the next 30 years if this continues 😃.
