Who is the 'Father figure' of the American Rap genre?

I'm from Puerto Rico, and I've noticed that not even Bad Bunny commands the same level of respect and admiration as pioneer rapper Vico C. It's remarkable how all artists make a conscious effort to honor his legacy through their careers. When Vico C creates a rap addressing certain aspects of other artists' work, they often adjust their future productions accordingly. He's truly a father figure to them all, and they respond to his guidance with respect. It's both fascinating and impressive. Who would you consider to be the American rap equivalent of Vico C, if there is one?

Update: So far the comments are putting Nas as the equivalent. (01/13/2025)
