Is there a new trend of wearing life vests just about and about (not talking about anywhere near water) and if so, why?

I’ve seen it a few times now and it’s all seems to be gen z’s wearing life vests around. I am talking about wearing them in the gym or in a coffee shop. I live in a very dry landlocked state. Also have seen some others wearing arm floaties too. Is this a new style trend? Is it a statement? What is going on?

Edit: posted in my local community sub Reddit and someone suggested it’s high schoolers playing Assassins. Which from a quick Google is apparently a Tik Tok game trend with squirt guns and has sparked some controversy with school safety. The life vest is just part of style of the game since it’s with squirt guns. Call me old but it’s still odd to me considering it’s 25 degrees today so a game of squirt guns doesn’t sound like fun to me.
