🗒️Match Events

  • 1st Half Begins

5'| SO CLOSE! Mbappe races down the left flank before standing up an inviting cross towards the back post. Dembele is in acres of space but fires a first-time left-footed volley narrowly wide of the bottom-left corner. That is a warning sign for Newcastle as Burn and Trippier were both exploited.

14'| OVER! Almiron, who scored from a similar long-range distance in his last outing against Burnley, powers forward before unleashing a left-footed drive. The effort is always sailing over, however, as Donnarumma remains unmoved.

17'|⚽Goal! Newcastle United 1, Paris Saint Germain 0. Miguel Almirón (Newcastle United).

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLL! 1-0 NEWCASTLE! St. James’ Park erupts into wild hysteria as Almiron fires Howe’s hosts into the lead. A loose pass from Marquinhos towards the edge of his own area sees Guimaraes head through for Isak, whose powerful first-time finish is parried away by Donnarumma. Almiron is there with a follow-up attempt, though, curling an expert left-footed finish into the bottom-left corner.

23'| WIDE! Zaire-Emery marauds through the middle of the pitch before striking a swerving right-footed attempt towards the top-right corner. Pope scrambles across but the teenage midfielder's effort goes wide of the right-hand post.

26'| CHANCE! Trippier whips a low corner towards the penalty spot as Schar peels off from his opposite man. The Newcastle centre-back curls a first-time right-footed shot that just sails wide to the right of goal. A well-worked set-piece routine almost doubled the Magpies' lead.

27'| CLOSE! Pope is caught in the wrong position as Ramos' low left-footed strike deflects off Lascelles, who is stationed in a central position in front of goal. The Newcastle goalkeeper will be the most relieved man in St. James' Park to see the ball go just wide to his right before the resulting corner comes to nothing.

38'| 🟨 Lucas Hernández (Paris Saint Germain) is shown the yellow card

39'|⚽Goal! Newcastle United 2, Paris Saint Germain 0. Dan Burn (Newcastle United).

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLL! 2-0 NEWCASTLE! The wait is over as the VAR overturns the original on-field decision and awards the goal. Guimaraes was thought to be offside on the left of the area as the ball cannoned around the area, before the Brazil midfielder found Burn at the back post for a header that Donnarumma could not keep out. The officials were also checking for a handball against Lascelles in the phase before, but neither are given!

45'| 🟨 Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint Germain) is shown the yellow card.

45'| Ref adds seven additional minutes to end this half.

45'+7'| 🟨 Bruno Guimarães (Newcastle United) is shown the yellow card.

  • 1st half ends

HT': Newcastle 2-0 PSG

  • 2nd Half Begins

50'| ⚽Goal! Newcastle United 3, Paris Saint Germain 0. Sean Longstaff (Newcastle United)

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLL! 3-0 NEWCASTLE! The Magpies are living their European dream as local hero Longstaff extends their lead. Trippier speeds down the right-hand side before finding the midfielder, who lashes a right-footed strike towards the near post from inside the area. Donnarumma should do better diving down to his right but the ferocious effort bursts through his grasp and into the back of the net!

56'| ⚽Goal! Newcastle United 3, Paris Saint Germain 1. Lucas Hernández (Paris Saint Germain).

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLL! PSG PULL ONE BACK! Dembele cuts inside before the visitors work possession towards Zaire-Emery. The teenage midfielder spots the run of Hernandez, who surges into the area before flicking a deft header past Pope and into the bottom-right corner. The VAR has a quick check before confirming the goal can stand. Newcastle lead 3-1!

57'| (Substitution) Luis Enrique makes his first change as Barcola comes on for Kolo Muani.

64'|(Substitution) Ugarte brings down Guimaraes and that will be his last action, as Vitinha replaces the PSG midfielder.

65'|(Substitution) Tonali, who has only just returned from injury, makes his way off to rapturous applause. Anderson is the man to come on.

67'| 🟨 Ousmane Dembélé (Paris Saint Germain) is shown the yellow card

70'|🟨 Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United) is shown the yellow card

71'| Substitution, Newcastle United. Jacob Murphy replaces Miguel Almirón.

84'| 🟨 Warren Zaïre-Emery (Paris Saint Germain) is shown the yellow card.

84'| SAVE! Isak bundles through a couple of PSG challenges before curling a timid effort straight into the hands of Donnarumma. The better option was to pass before the Sweden striker took the, arguably, selfish option.

85'| WIDE! Mbappe, who has been almost anonymous at St. James' Park, lets fly with a wicked right-footed drive that goes just wide to the left from the edge of the box. The France international insists it has taken a deflection, which appears quite obvious to all involved, but the referee points for a goal-kick.

88'| 🟨 Nick Pope (Newcastle United) is shown the yellow card.

90'+1'|⚽Goal! Newcastle United 4, Paris Saint Germain 1. Fabian Schär (Newcastle United).

  • WHAT A GOOOOOOOOOAALLLLLLLLLLLL! St. James’ Park has a perfect ending to one of its most memorable games. Schar has been brilliant at the back against PSG, but he has a goal to go with it. The centre-back intercepts in midfield, exchanging a one-two with Murphy, before blasting a right-footed strike into the top-right corner from outside the area. 4-1 to the Magpies!

90+3'| (Substitution) Gordon comes off to a hero’s ovation from the home supporters. Targett will get a brief bit of action.
