38w5d Reduced Movement and Odd Physician Interaction
I’m 38w5d. During all third trimester, baby has been very, very active until a couple of days ago (over the weekend) when he seemed to slow down a bit. I didn’t go into L&D right away because I had a follow up ultrasound already scheduled for Monday (yesterday) and was scheduled for induction on Thursday (1/2/25). The US on Monday showed that his heart rate was on the lower end (109-118 bpm) and that he was taking a little longer to breathe. Last week his heart rate was 149 bpm, so it seemed like a significant decline. They decided to put me on a monitor and see his heart rate for 30 mins. After the test, doctor on duty said that his heart rate was great as it had little peaks t/o and that she wasn’t concerned. I told her that I was concerned about the reduced movement and didn’t think it made sense to wait a few more days to be induced. The doctor responded that it was up to me, that I was the one who knew the baby best, and that she basically was not going to recommend me for admission but that I was welcome to just go to emergency l&d. She also said that the l&d unit was super busy and that I would likely wait a while. I was kind of taken aback by her washing her hands off the decision to go in. In the end, I told her that I wouldn’t be able to relax at home knowing the heart rate was trending downwards so I would just go in. I was immediately admitted and found to be having contractions. Was the ultrasound doctor weird or am I overthinking everything?
