Feeling discouraged after one week of potty training

Our daughter is about to turn 2 next week. She’s an excellent communicator, knows that pee and poop go in the potty, tells us when she poops in her diaper. We thought she was ready but after a week we’re feeling discouraged and not sure what to do next. I am also very ready for her to be out of diapers, I’m pregnant and she’s about to be starting school and the timing just made sense.

We didn’t read any specific book or follow any specific method, but what we’re doing is this: - bare bottom during the day at home. She has small potties set up in a couple rooms and the seat attachment for the big toilet - diapers for nap time and bedtime - diaper on the way to and from swim lessons (30 minute drive) - encouraging her to sit on the potty every 20 minutes

As of today she yells “NO I DONT WANT TO POOP ON POTTY” when we tell her to go to the potty and if we try to help her go to the potty she completely arches her back and screams. Then all of a sudden she’ll start peeing and run to the potty and pee a ton and be super happy while we all celebrate. It’s almost like the more we push the harder she pushes back? It’s been 6 days and I’d say she’s going pee in the potty maybe 50-60% of the time and has only pooped on the potty once. I don’t think she fully understands the sensation of poop until after it’s already happened where pee she recognizes right away. It’s even worse with our babysitter (my sister, her aunt) who just called me and said she had 3 accidents in a row!

Tomorrow we were thinking of backing off the pressure so much and just reminding her if she has an accident that “pee goes in the potty” but not telling her directly to go since that seems to piss her off?

Any tips welcome. Maybe I should read the oh crap book since that seems to be most closely what we’re doing? Ugh so discouraging!

Thanks in advance!
