Thoughts on Gym Leaders and E4 Using Pokémon Outside of Their Type?

I’m actually a big fan of trainers going outside of their designated type. I think it adds to the challenge and is more interesting than having two of the same Pokémon.

Always thought Phoebe and Glacia had boring rosters in Hoenn with doubled up Dusclops, Banette, Glalie and Sealeo. I would have rather seen Glacia have Relicanth and Wailord on her roster, implying that she was looking for Regice.

One of my favorite E4 trainers is Flint. It makes sense that the cold Sinnoh region wouldn’t have many fire types, and I like the creative inclusion of Steelix as a giant flint.

What’s the general consensus on this? Any rosters you would change?
