World's Fair as 250th Bday Party in 2026?
To the Powers That Be:
If we can't afford to have a proper 250th birthday party next year, how about a World's Fair, which is such a neat tradition where historic discoveries were made? We can showcase both Philly's and the nation's achievements in a scaled down version.
It would be so fun and provide an opportunity to elevate local innovations and attractions on a world stage. This is one way the higher ups could further their objective of transforming Philly into a world-class city while being of, for, and by the people without exploiting local communities (a la FDR Park's proposed artificial turf soccer fields and the World Cup).
With respect to budget and other resources, it could significantly draw upon pre-existing local resources that we already have right here in our city and simply need to find a way to showcase, which could be funded by local businesses.
Anyway, if not next year, hopefully, one day, Philly will pick the tradition back up and host another kick-butt World's Fair. Thanks!
