What do we do with Ben Sheppard long term?
This season he is averaging about 9.7 points, 1.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds per 36 minutes shooting 37% from 3, and 48% from 2. While that obviously doesn’t full reflect his true value due to want he does defensively, it does show his limitations offensively, which I think will keep him out of the rotation when the team is healthy.
With everyone back healthy, our rotation will probably look something like this:
PG: Hali/TJ
SG: Nemhard/Mathurin/Hali/Nesmith
SF: Nesmith/Mathurin/Walker
PF: Siakam/Obi/Walker
C: Turner/Siakam/Bryant
That’s already 10 deep, with more than enough wings and guards in the rotation. There frankly just isn’t room for Sheppard.
So that begs the question. Do we keep him around for extra depth because inevitably someone will get injured. It fells a bit wasteful to have such a capable role player rotting away on the bench. Or do we consider moving him? It feels to me as though it’s pretty unlikely that we would get anything meaningful in return for him right now, but I could see a team that’s struggling to add depth give up draft capital for him over the offseason.
If you would be open to letting him go, what is the minimum you would accept for him? A few second rounders? More?
