My parent's Really don't like the idea of orthotropics. Need help convincing.
So here's the deal, I'm an 15 year old male child that has gone roughly 1 year with braces on the top row of my teeth, mainly because my right canine tooth was formed in the wrong place in my mouth, which was somewhere 1 inch behind my top row of teeth and slightly higher up (I don't know the actual specifications, I would like to know how I would access my medical file or something). And had to undergo surgery to carve flesh out to attach an gold chain to pull down my tooth into the right place, it's basically in the right spot (visible but needs to be rotated, not sure how they gonna do that.)
TLDR: Canine Tooth formed in wrong place, needed orthodontics to drag it all the way to it's spot (still undergoing braces).
That of that is an acceptable use of orthodontics in my opinion, but my parents are saying that I'll need to get bottom braces to "realign" my bottom teeth and I would need to use an retainer to prevent the teeth from crowding.
I personally think my teeth aren't crooked at all, and I was suggesting to my mom that I wanna try to do orthotropics, (keep in mind I have let them know about how human jaws changed from us cooking, then farming, and finally industrialization with processed foods and all that). So I have been suction mewing for about an week now, trying to convince my parents to get me tougher food told them about possibly palate expanders in the future so I don't need retainer for the rest of my life. And keep eating the baby carrots in my fridge despite my parents telling me not to (just got berated today for doing that). (I know that I'm not suppose to eat tough foods with braces but... I only have my top braces & I haven't broken a single bracket at all through all my time wearing braces while eating chips and tough foods and such at all. And they know this, so I'm not sure why they are mad about carrots now.) They say in response that your jaw "is what it is", that even though you could be using chew toys, "mewing", eating tough foods, and all that. I'd would still need to get bottom braces and wear an retainer. And Orthotropics won't solve the root problem of needing braces in general. Even though THAT'S WHATS IT'S FOR.
I would love any advise to change their minds, I really hate the installed appliances in my mouth, and I think my body is still malleable and I want to make the most of my youthful bones.
