In my opinion the penalties for stunt driving are not harsh enough, who agrees?
As of now I believe 40 kph over in less than an 80 zone, or 50 kph above otherwise results in a stunt driving charge. For a first offense, the punishments are a 30 day roadside license suspension, car gets impounded for 2 weeks, license suspension of at least 1 year and up to $10k in fines. Most people would think these are pretty reasonable penalties for stunt driving, but they’re way too lenient as tons of Canadians still get caught doing so.
For a first offense, I think the roadside suspension should be at least a year, car impounded for at least a year, license suspension upon conviction at least 10 years, and a fine of $200,000 to $1,000,000. For a second offense, it should be an indefinite roadside license suspension until court, car gets taken to a junkyard where it will be destroyed, license is permanently revoked with no chance or reinstatement, fines of at least $1,000,000 and up to $5,000,000, and life in prison without the possibility of parole.
If these were the penalties, imagine how many people would still stunt drive. Probably none
