Observing a Trend in Indian Marriages and Relationships

I've been noticing a peculiar trend in Indian marriages and relationships lately. Many top-tier men—those who have graduated from prestigious B-schools in India or abroad and are earning impressive salaries—seem to be choosing partners who, on paper, appear to be less accomplished.

By "less accomplished," I mean women with basic degrees like BA, BSc, or BE from tier-3 colleges, often with academic struggles like multiple backlogs or even repeating a year or. In several cases, these women aren't conventionally attractive and have had multiple relationships in the past. Not even their castes are same.

I've personally come across around 15-20 such cases, which makes me wonder: why are these highly accomplished men opting for partners who seemingly don’t match their academic or professional level?

One example is this guy who has graduated from YALE and working in MAANG firm is going after this girl who graduated from tier 3 engineering college of a tier 2 City with 3 year drops due to multiple backs. She completed her engineering in 7 years. This guy is good looking in my opinion where as the girl is just average. On top of that, this girl has dated multiple guys and at present also she's talking to other men alongside him. The guy in question also comes from a better family background with multiple businesses and properties while this girls' parents are retired and were working in some form.

What could be the reason behind this sudden shift in trend which I'm observing? I would like to know what do others think about it.
