Brain zaps but I've never taken antidepressants?

I'm already going to see a counselor for the first time due to feeling mentally unwell for the past several years and had been considering possible medication and I will ask about this, but it won't be for another week so I wanted to see what I can get from here that I could possibly ask about. The more info I could ask about the better.

So I just found out what brain zaps were called, and it came to my attention because while I've always had them, a friend of mine who's been on medication (don't know what it's called) said one of his side effects were a weird jolt feeling that makes him flinch. I get these once or twice a day probably for the past few years, plus I tend to phase out often, which tends lead into the anxiety issues I've been having, and also possibly depression following. I looked up what it could be but all I'm seeing is that it's a side effect of coming off of medication. The weird thing is that I've never taken medication, and as I said, my friend got them while he is on them, so I'd like to know what could cause it.
