Potentially Getting Hardship Separation
Hello everyone, allow me to explain:
I have two HUGE complications in my Navy career that have come up as of late. First one was that I got disqualified from my rate (for anonymity I am not going to include this), so looking for a new rate. Cut to about a week before underway, and my wife tells me (in case anyone needs it, trigger warning), “if you go out to sea again I’m not going to make it” implying she will kill herself. My wife is generally a wonderful woman but she also has bipolar disorder and what we suspect is autism so the amount of change the navy causes has put her in enough distress to hospitalize her for a week and a half, and to cause at least one serious attempt on her life. She is not doing well. My chain of command has been incredibly understanding thankfully, and I am officially on the stay behind list for this underway to buy us some time to figure out what to do, but my chief said that if I can’t deploy because of this situation it’s likely that I will have to go through with a hardship separation. I looked through the MILPERSMAN on the subject and it’s vague as to what kind of separation (honorable, general, etc.) it would be, and I’d like to at least receive some of my benefits. What do you guys think? What can I do to improve my odds of an honorable sep, if I even need to? Thank you all!
Important information: - I have been in for 2.5 years (three in August). - I am an E-3, will make E-4 in February - As stated, I’m already in the process of a rate conversion due to disqualification from my rate, but not an unrated sailor (still [Rate]AN). - A lot of my supervisors seem to like me, I got a FLOC routed up awhile ago although I haven’t gotten it back yet. I also have gotten more unofficial bravo zulus. Not a lot on writing aside from an MP eval. I am qualed either up to or slightly above my pay grade shipboard wise. Does any of this do me any good? Is my time in the navy going to screw me over? Thanks again guys!
