What is our generations Star Wars?
Personal take is LOTR because it already seems timeless and was so over the top and involved when it came out. The flip side is I would say Harry Potter was a needle directly into the vain of the cultural zeitgeist of our generation, and loved by many, but I believe will be more of a generational franchise than a longstanding one unless they reboot it for Gen Alpha; which I wouldn’t be suprised at all if they do at some point. Or maybe the next generation. 30 years seems to be minimum wait time for a lot of reboots like Robocop and Ghostbusters.
Another one I could see is Judd Apatow falling into the National Lampoon type of category because those movies were made at a time you can’t replicate any more and being puerile was the point in a lot of ways, but with a moral center a lot of 80s flicks lacked in the same way, like a continuation between generational changes. Just as immature as NL in many ways and not been created since.
Curious of your thoughts. I’m high at work with down time and made me wonder.

EDIT: After reading some comments a better question to ask is more a cultural impact that’s lasting generations rather than a movie in particular. Star Wars is emblematic of spanning generations and is more the question I was asking, but hadn’t quite formed it fully.
The Pokémon answer really put it in perspective and makes a lot of sense, but never would have known because I don’t follow the culture.
