Are fries really that bad?

If I look at nutrition of store bought fries it is at 120kcal/100g. I know that plain potatoes comes much better, but sometimes you just don't have the time to peel them and cut them to slices. So my thinking is that if I air-fry (and they taste actually really good) or bake them and don't add any more oil, this side dish has less kilocalories then regular side dishes such as rice, bread or pasta. I know it is processed food, but I bet there exist fries that are less processed. Are there any errors in my thinking? Can anyone educate me, why it is considered bad for losing weight?
