Silly question about Suits tv show vs real life. What protocols are in place to make sure fraudsters are not able to practice law?

Obvisiouly I know what happens on TV shows are dramatized. But in real life, I would assume that you try a case in court you would have to provide your law license or more when you go to trial. Someone would review that before you can even get to the first trial right? What protocols do the courts have in place to prevent something like that from happening in real life? Seems silly I know but just curious.

For those who may have not seen the show, Mike Ross hasn't graduated from college, a lawschool, or even passed the bar exam. but he is a genius. So he can memorize any book within minutes and retain it forever. He ends up practicing law without a license. He can't finish school because he was so smart (but also broke) that he used to charge people to take tests for them. He got caught and now no school will enroll him. So he can’t sit for the bar.
